That’s a wrap! Chloe’s 3rd birthday party is in the books, and it was pretty cute, if I do say so myself. She is a huge Pooh Bear fan, so we ran with that theme and it was oh-so-adorable in the Hundred Acre Wood! As is our style, we wanted the party to feel low-key and casual, yet have just a few magical details to be memorable. We chose to have the party outdoors on the greenbelt in front of our house. With the big shade trees, we knew it would be the perfect setting for the Hundred Acre Wood. It was a warm, breezy afternoon and the kids ran around the grass, decorated cookies and munched on snacks while the adults spread out blankets to relax. Chloe was thrilled to have her friends and family sing her “Happy Birthday” again this year, and she even sang along. But I know her favorite part was diving into the homemade honey vanilla cupcake her auntie made for her, complete with yellow frosting and “rainbow sprinkles” as requested (her aunt is Michelle from A Latte Food). You know it’s a good party when a barefoot three year old doesn’t want to stop running around, a giant stuffed Pooh Bear in tow. We finally lured her back into the house for presents!
As always, our amazing families pitched in for little details and for setup/cleanup. My mom offered up all her Pooh Bear goodies (she’s a big fan!) for decor, my sister baked the cupcakes and made the sugar cookies for decorating, my mother-in-law arranged the flowers (all my parties must have fresh flowers!) and my dad barbequed in the sun so our guests could enjoy burgers and hotdogs (a summertime staple). I’ve added more details to this mostly-DIY party below, along with links, but the memories made were definitely the best part.
Happy Birthday to our little girl. We love her to the moon and back.
xoxo,
Heidi
I HAD to make the “wood” sign, and I love the way it turned out just from cardboard. Eric attached it to a tall stake so it could sit in the grass. I bought little foam butterflies and flowers from the craft store to glue on.
How cute is this beehive? We know Pooh Bear is always close to one! We spray painted a white paper lantern (don’t ask why I didn’t just buy a yellow one!) and drew the black lines on. Then I added bumble bee stickers around it and hung it from the tree!
I didn’t get the best picture of this, but I made the “Mr. Sanders” door and sign and we nailed it to the tree. The big stuffed Pooh Bear sat in front of it until Chloe scooped him up and played with him for the rest of the party!
I only planned for one game which was “Pin the Tail on Eeyore.” We just downloaded the pages, printed it out on home and glued it to a posterboard. The kiddos wrote their names on the tails and attached them with tape. Super DIY and super simple. The kids had a blast except for Chloe, who got too nervous to be blindfolded, lol. Oh well!
The take-home gifts were these empty honey bear jars filled with teddy grahams. I just bought the empty jars from Amazon and tied ribbon around them. They were supposed to have tags on them that said, “Thank you!” but I couldn’t find my tags the morning of, sooooo ….. #reallife
Also, those cute little “hunny” jars worked perfectly as table weights! It was quite the blustery day 😉
The kids sat and colored in Pooh Bear coloring books and then decorated bear sugar cookies. I didn’t get many pictures of it, but they had a blast. There was frosting, edible squeeze-gel, sprinkles and sugar eyeballs. What else could you need?
We kept the food very minimal and simple, as years past has taught us that people don’t actually eat much at a party! We had “Rabbit’s Garden Veggies” (ummm, definitely just bought a tray from the store!) and “Piglet’s Pink Lemonade” (good ol’ powder mixed with water) and the usual chips & dip and teddy grahams for the little ones. We had watermelon, but left it in the fridge (just being honest here!). Barbequed cheeseburgers, hotdogs and potato salad rounded out the food department.
Here are the amazing cupcakes my sister made! Honey vanilla cake with vanilla frosting, all made from scratch. Topped with rainbow sprinkles, an edible flower and a plastic Pooh Bear character ring. Everybody loved these! Then again, everything she touches (bakes) is gold!
Last, but not least, this beautiful balloon arch from Party Zealot was the perfect festive touch. It was so easy to put together, and this baby held up the entire party … through quite a bit of strong breeze! This company also sells arches that can sit on the ground and balloon stands as well. I would highly recommend this product! You can order from them online and use HR20 for a 20% discount!
A couple more details: Chloe’s handmade Winnie the Pooh dress is from Dreams Made of String – check this cute shop out on Etsy. Her Pooh Bear ears are from Amazon. Her red plaid hair bow is from Little Poppy Co.
Hope you enjoyed this post … such beautiful memories for us! Aren’t birthdays just the best?
