Our family loves Disneyland! We love the rides, the characters, aaaalll the magical details and of course the foooooooood (and beverages!) My favorite drink is the boysen-apple freeze that you can purchase at the Fantasy Faire near the castle. It’s a play on “poison apple” … get it? But it’s sooooo good! It’s like a sparkling apple cider slushy mixed with a boysenberry syrup and a yummy froth on top. It’s cold, refreshing and delicious! I typically get one every single time we go and we’re annual passholders so we go a lot!
I wanted to try my hand at copying the recipe at home, but was inspired to give it my own holiday twist because Christmas cocktails (or mocktails!) are so fun! I actually didn’t even research Disneyland’s recipe at all, but just threw together some stuff and out this came! It’s got the slushiness, the sparkling apple and a few festive ingredient touches for some added flare.
This could easily be turned into a true cocktail with the addition of liquor (I’m thinking rum would be best), but this mocktail is great for everyone – even Chloe liked it and she doesn’t do “fizz” hehe.
Here’s the recipe to serve 2:
3 cups of sparkling apple cider
2 TBSP of cranberry juice
1 TBSP Trader Joe’s Sugar Plum Jam (a boysenberry would work great, too!)
2 cups of ice
A handful of cranberries for garnish
Blend all the ingredients together, but not for long so that the ice just gets slushy-like and not liquid. Drop the cranberries at the bottom of a glass and then pour in your beverage. Enjoy!
