One of my favorite Christmas memories from my childhood is decorating gingerbread houses. We always used graham crackers (and maybe a little hot glue!), but lots and lots of candy! I wanted to throw my girls a little gingerbread house decorating party myself … complete with cookies, chocolate milk and gingerbread hairbows because who doesn’t want to be a little extra now and then?
The most important part of a gingerbread house decorating party is, of course, the gingerbread house! We used the kits from Sprinkle Pop Shop and they did not disappoint! The gingerbread was perfectly firm, there was plenty of mix to make the frosting (which was the absolute perfect texture and such a breeze to squeeze out of the bags!) and the sprinkles were just beautiful! The houses were so easy to put together and the girls loved the colorful decorations. The house also smelled of vanilla and gingerbread for more than a week after!
I matched the sprinkle colors to custom-create a tassel banner and mini flag garlands from Lynn’s Mix. She has the cutest little things for parties! It was fun incorporating nontraditional Christmas colors with classic red and green.
The girls’ gingerbread hairbows are from Lil Wildflower Bows and were just the cutest addition to the party because you’ve gotta match the theme! They snacked on cookies from Whole Foods and sipped hot cocoa made from Pop Bar. Have you heard? Flavored hot chocolate on a stick just placed in hot milk. It was rich and delicious!
I envisioned little aprons on the girls and was excited to find ruffle ones at Hobby Lobby. I didn’t realize they were adult size, though! Oh well! They had the best afternoon listening to Christmas tunes and pouring sprinkles everywhere. I mean, everywhere! I just love making memories with them!
Thanks for stopping by,
Heidi
