When Chloe went from her toddler bed (crib without a rail) to a twin bed, we did a bit of new decorating, but not much. I was still utilizing a lot of her original nursery décor. In the last few months, I have been itching to refresh her room as she approaches her fifth birthday (I’m fine, it’s fine) and quarantine allowed me to finally pull the trigger!
The first step was deciding whether to repaint or not. I absolutely loath painting, so I was more than happy to pick an alternative, even though I don’t love her wall color. It’s not so much the color itself, but the way it looks with her current light fixture. We decided to keep the paint (and even keep the fixture for now), but add a bold wallpaper to one long wall and I couldn’t be more in love! I went with a bold pattern, but a muted color palatte by Rocky Mountain Decals. It’s called Dreaming in Pastels. If you are not familiar with removable wallpaper, it’s the best invention ever! You measure your wall and purchase the amount of panels you need. The panels are sent to you and labeled in order so you can line up the pattern correctly. It’s just like a giant peel and stick! I have done two walls in my house by myself, and it’s honestly not difficult at all. It’s a great way to create a focal point in a room and add some interest and color! Rocky Mountain Decals has so many options for every room in your house!
Once the wallpaper was up, I felt like her room looked so much better. It brought a punch of much-needed life into her room. I chose a floral pattern as I wanted to bring in other floral elements throughout her room. I also think florals are feminine and classic and this décor will grow with her. I added a few more new things into her room while keeping other elements such as her area rug and furniture. I worked with a handful of small shops to add the unique and whimsical touches that make a little girls’ room extra special. I have linked their shops below.
I love a room that feels a bit eclectic … not matchy matchy. Although I wanted to carry certain colors throughout the space to tie it together, I wanted it to feel like it had depth. I loved mixing the polka dots and florals and different shades of pinks. And the personalization in a kids space is a must! There are name and initial elements all around her room, as well as things that I know bring her joy and spark fun memories such as her Disneyland hat and mouse ears, her Halloween costume from a few years back and her stuffed animals. I also added a really personal touch by drawing a picture of her and I and making a DIY yarn hanging for her wall.
Thank you for stopping by and be sure to check out the listed shops if you’re looking for unique and handmade pieces 🙂

Heidi
