Why did I decide to start a blog?
After choosing to become a stay-at-home mom, I found myself missing the creative outlet that teaching had provided. I have a Master’s degree in Education, and I longed to be able to make use of my knowledge. I decided to blend the two desires and create this space where I could both explore my creative side through photography and design while sharing how to incorporate teaching and learning into life with kids.
Aside from my family, what brings me joy?
I adore a good book and a deep conversation. I love games of most kinds and the friendly competition that comes with them. I love baking and indulging in the end results. A brisk hike in the mountains, a sunset at the beach, the smell of horses. Exploring new cities, giggling with my best friend like we’re back in middle school, listening to a good album on repeat. Hunting for treasures at a thrift shop, cupcakes and shopping with my sister, reminiscing with my husband about our pre-baby days. These are just a few of my favorite things.
How did I meet my husband?
After four years of acquaintance and friendship, I reached out to him after a breakup in hopes of finding the closure he had found after his own. A single conversation turned into hundreds of conversations; the best ones while cuddled up on a lifeguard tower, listening to the waves at night. Our chemistry was instantaneous and undeniable. I was gun shy; he was persistent. He went to Europe, and I backed out. He came back, and wouldn’t let me go. He proposed less than a year later on a hilltop looking over the beach, and we wed under the stars on a chilly night in the Fall. He is my rock, my best friend and the most devoted dad. And he still makes me laugh when the kids go to bed.
What do I love most about motherhood?
The smell of my girls’ hair when they are snuggled up to me, the feel of their little fingers laced into mine. The light in Chloe’s eyes when she is truly happy, and the sound of her “I love you, mommy.” The way she mimics what I say and do and has us in stitches over her funny sayings. Emelia’s belly laughs when we tickle her bare tummy before a bath. It’s truly the small things, but experiencing their world, which is so different than my own, is breathtaking.
What do I miss most about teaching?
The writing of lessons that inspire and motivate. The creation of activities, games and experiences that foster the love of learning. The smudged faces after lunch, the curious questions and the raw honesty of seven year olds. Teaming with parents to help their child learn, grow and develop. While I plan to return to the classroom someday, I am finding happy in teaching my girls at home and helping others to do the same, each in our own organic way.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here, reading this, experiencing motherhood and life with me!
xoxo, Heidi
