My Favorite Things: Self-Care Edition

Health & Beauty

17 May

Self care is a buzz phrase that we are seeing everywhere right now, am I right? Everyone is talking about the importance of self care, especially for busy moms, and if I’m being honest, I’ve been rolling my eyes lately at each new article, post and conversation. Yeah, yeah, yeah. “Take care of myself so I can take better care of my family.” I got it already! But here’s the thing. When I really think about it, I truly do believe those words are true. And frankly, I practice them as often as I can! And though often the first things we think of when we hear “self care” are facials, bubble baths and a tall glass of wine, there’s a lot more to caring for ourselves. There’s heathy eating, exercise, time to ourselves, time with friends, date nights, hobbies, spiritual care, etc. And for each mama (or person!), our version of self care is going to look different. I feel like I could actually write a lot on this topic, delving into how to hold on to the person we are away from our kids, but that’s for another time. Right now, I wanted to stick to the most superficial form of self care (that’s right … the facials, bubble baths and wine I mentioned earlier LOL), and share a few of my favorite products as of late. Because yes, as a mom, I’m busier than I was before kids and have less “me time,” but it’s still important to me to feel my best. I’ve always enjoyed playing with makeup, doing my hair, putting together outfits … and I’ve learned how to continue doing all this while still being a mom! When I feel put together in the morning, I’m more productive during the day and have more confidence which just makes me feel better. So let’s get to the products …

        1. 100% pure blush ~ my sis in law introduced me to this brand a few years back, and I love love love this blush! It’s pricey, but lasts a long time and I really love how healthy it is for my skin. I’ve been trying to slowly but surely move away from toxin-filled makeup to more pure products!  I also have to mention Pixi blushes … not as natural, but such beautiful subtle colors!  You can find Pixi at Target!
        2. Smile Brilliant Teeth Whitening System ~ this system creates custom trays for your mouth so you can professionally whiten at home! I’ve been using this for about two weeks, and am loving the results! I have veneers on my front teeth so whitening can be difficult, but so far, I am about one or two shades whiter which makes me so happy! And bonus! You can enter HERE to win a free system for yourself! Or if you want to grab one now, I have a discount code for you: myhappynow15
        3. Zoya Nail Polish ~ an all-natural nail polish brand! Although I’d rather get a manicure (haha), doing my nails at home is second best!
        4. Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus Foundation ~ okay, I love trying out new foundations! This is one product I’m just not able to stay loyal to a single brand, buuuut I am currently really liking this super cheap option! It goes on smooth, you can mix colors to find your perfect match thanks to the price and it looks great in photos! Who knew Wet n’ Wild made more than sparkly lipgloss?
        5. Cosmedix Glow Face Mask ~ I received this product in my spring Cause Box, and it’s amazing which tells me the rest of this skin care line is probably amazing, too!  It’s a quick facial mask and exfoliating scrub that goes on and comes off easy and makes my skin feel incredible!
        6. Bliss Ex-Glow-Sion Moisturizer ~ I just started using this and love it!  It’s smooth and buttery and quenches my skin without leaving any residue.  Perfect for both night and day under my makeup. And it’s available at Target!
        7. Moroccan Magic Lip Balm ~ this is my favorite lip balm!  I started using this about 6 months ago, and it’s the best!  Infused with essential oils, it’s smooth, smells great and truly leaves my lips feeling nourished.
        8. Facial Scrubber ~ this face exfoliator works wonders!  It deep cleans and is a breeze to keep clean.  I use it in the shower!  You can also get larger ones for your body … perfect to use before applying self-tanner.  I love using Clarins facial scrub along with this scrubber!
        9. Living Proof Humidity Shield ~ this hair product adds body and hold while also decreasing frizz. I can’t get enough of it!
        10. Heather Grace Skincare ~ a shout-out to an incredible, all-natural skincare line locally handcrafted in California.  The body butters are my absolute favorite!  Made with real ingredients and free of all the yucky stuff, they smell incredible and moisturize like no other!  Run by the sweetest lady (who happens to be my cousin’s wife so my cousin-in-law? Is that a thing?), I truly stand behind her products!

So there you have it ~ ten of my favorite products right now for superficial self-care which is important, ladies!  Don’t think twice about that bubble bath, long shower or half an hour in front of the mirror making yourself feel good!  Loreal says it right – we’re worth it!

    Happy self care!

    xoxo, Heidi

Last minute resort changes, 2 sick kids (always, it’s our curse) and outrunning the hurricane to get home BUT we had a great week in Hawaii. Snorkeling, sea turtles, henna tattoos (now that’s a story 😂), hula pie, sandy everything ~ love making these memories!

Another before and after. This was a tough one for Another before and after. This was a tough one for me as I couldn’t decide between something simple and modern or a little more ornate and traditional. We settled on modern and it goes well with the rest of the house although I see myself opting for a fancier mantel in the future 🤷‍♀️🙃 I also want to get the surface plastered, too. Nothing is ever truly finished!

Just a few spring break snapshots. We headed back Just a few spring break snapshots. We headed back to Santa Barbara for a few days. Stayed in Montecito this time and walked through Summerland for an afternoon. We also took the girls to Solvang for the first time since Chloe was a toddler. Enjoyed lots of iced coffee, ocean views, scenic walks and delicious meals. So glad we are raising kids who love to explore and take easy breezy trips ☀️

The coffee bar! If you followed along in my storie The coffee bar! If you followed along in my stories, this was a last-minute change that was only made possible because the original cabinets we ordered were missing a part for installation. When I saw the open space, I knew we needed to install open shelves instead. We brought the backsplash up which was a nice upgrade. I love this little nook so much. No regrets (even though the original cabinets are still sitting in a box in my dining room 😆). More before and afters to come!
